About me
Engineering and Leadership
A dedicated engineer and compassionate leader
With creative and driven experience in high availability/fault-tolerance, data-center operations, software development, and a compassionate and balanced view of leadership, I’m proud to bring a sense of ownership, dedication, and technical excellence to any adventure that I embark on.
My Values – The Core Of Who I Am
Compassion
Genuine concern for those around me – not at a manager/productivity level, but a human level.
We all have bad days and setbacks; we need someone to listen and even help coach us through those times. Be it a peer or a leader, being heard helps us process the situation, heal quicker, and move forward.
Servant Leadership
Bottom-Up Leadership, where we serve our direct reports, is critical to ensure that we do our best for our people.
When our people see we are there to support them (and not mindlessly chasing “maximum shareholder value” at the cost of our people), people are more motivated and feel more engaged.
Communication
Not being afraid to have the “tough” conversations, but also being the first to praise a team member or report for a job well done.
Let’s be honest – sometimes performance conversations are hard. By framing those conversations in such a way to encourage someone to do better and to be clear about what the expectations are (and providing steps on how to reach them, along with solid examples), we can reach our best potential.
Continuous Self Improvement
I am certainly not perfect, but I drive hard to adapt and improve.
Feedback from those I serve and those that suppport me is a critical part of this feedback -> learn -> demonstrate cycle and is something I am very passionate about.
I love getting feedback – it helps me know where I am and how I better serve the folks I am leading.
The Right Attitude At The Right Time
As leaders, we must have the right attitude at the right time – it makes all the difference to those around us.
While some situations may call for levity, others call for honest and clear communications. And others may call for casual conversation. Yet others may call for a “rally the troops” type attitude to bring our team with us as we move towards a goal.
High Technical Aptitude
Many years in the technology/SaaS industries has taught me that there is always something new and exciting to learn.
To do your best job (developer/engineer, leader, apprentice, etc), you should not only understand the tech that you’re working with, but also use your skill sets to tackle problems that come your way. I love a good technical challenge or puzzle!
